Just to Clear Things Up :)

I find it really amusing that many of my high school friends are mistaken on what degree program I chose. Many of you think that I am a student of Communication Arts, Journalism or often you think that I am an English Major student, but then to keep you all posted I am none of these for I am a proud BA Sociology student at the University of the Philippines at Los Banos. Yes, I have considered taking up the aforementioned courses but then I settled on taking up Sociology, so there I think that that cleared things up :)

The First Month

Time does fly when you are having fun. It seems like only yesterday when I chose to enroll at UPLB and now even I cannot believe it, It has exactly been a month since I started college. The first month seems like a whirl, it has gone by so fast, without me realizing it, I have settled into a new routine, a new life and a new environment. Being in college has taught me many things, as I made the choice to study here I knew that it would not be easy, I knew that I would encounter new things but never did I expect to enjoy it immensely. Looking back I had many doubts as I entered college, I asked many questions and I was very bothered, but looking back now, those questions seem to be very foolish. True, the workload is immensely heavy and the academic atmosphere can really be felt, but there is more to it than that, I now have found friends of my own, I've met new people and I've learned to be more independent. Maybe its too early to say, but then for the time being I really...

A Bit of Change

Holla! so this post is really about nothing in particular but then again it concerns my blog as a whole. It just came to my attention that most of my blog posts here contain things about my everyday experiences and day to day life. I know not many will want to read about the rantings of a teenage girl so now I am planning on changing it up a bit, although my posts will still be about me, I will be trying to incorporate things that would be very much interesting just like my most viewed post here. Another thing that would be on here would be my college adventures since I am currently a College freshman and btw thank you to you my readers for bearing with my long rants.

Just Another Panic Attack

High School wasn't meant to last forever, its just that simple, but then again it is just really hard to let go. St. Mary's Academy - Pasay was my home for the last 4 years. It was where almost everyone knew me, it was where my comfort zone was and it did feel like my home away from home. I recently graduated high school and before I know it, the time is already here for me to enter college. High school seemed to be a drag, but now as I look back at the fond memories those four years now just seem to be a snap. I've been used to my panic attacks lately, that feeling of excitement, then it comes, that feeling of anxiety, of worry and panic. In just a few days' time I will be out of my comfort zone, I will be out in the open, I will be vulnerable for the first time in quite a long time. Being in the sheltered walls of SMAP all throughout high school, I find it really hard to comprehend the idea of me leaving, maybe what makes it harder for me is the fact that I...

The Movie that was High School

Image
*I actually intended this to be published in our school publication but due to several factors it was not included in the final draft* Maybe  you've  heard it a thousand times, it’s cliché I know, but as a graduating senior, it truly can be said that High school is and was the time of my life. We’ve seen the movies and we’ve read the books, high school is the time of our life wherein we come of age, we experiment, we explore and we experience. I can clearly recall the first time that I walked through the corridors of the high school department, sure it was scary, it was daunting and I was full of apprehension. Will I fit in? Will I make new friends? And most of all Will I survive High school? I was such a nervous freshman back then; looking back it was an experience that left its mark. FOUR YEARS – now many would consider this to be a long time, but believe me once you’re there, once you realize that you are about to leave and that you’re about to finish high s...

The Time of My Life

Image
H1 - Our Lady of Lourdes, Ms. Aileen Villegas H2 - Our Lady of Charity*, Ms. Carla Solomon H3 - Our Lady of Divine Providence, Ms. Jeremy Florenciano, Ms. Myrla Emboltorio H4 - Our Lady of the Assumption*, Mr. Edwin Rieza Jr. These Four sections  are really big parts of my High school life, They have seen me navigate my way though thick and thin, but most importantly they have been with me all the way. High School was like the movie that you wanted it to be. The friends, the drama, the tears, the laughter, the triumphs and of course the failures. If you look at it four years may seem to be such a really long time but to me and my fellow seniors 4 years seemed to be so short. Lets start with the beginning, shall we? H1- Our Lady of Lourdes with Ms. Aileen Villegas. My first year in High school was anything but boring. Elected Class President on the first wee. Consistent part of the Top 3 in my section, tons of friends. a whole lot of laughs and a whole lot  of tears...

The English Language in the 21st Century

*This is a speech that I wrote and delivered for the Oratorical Speaking Contest for the English week celebration of my school, The following piece, along with my performance won first place for the said contest* Let’s take a walk down memory lane shall we? I clearly remember being taught countless nursery rhymes by my mom, who at that time was also my English teacher. Isn’t it quite baffling that the first songs that most children learn are nursery rhymes of the English language. Learning is a life-long process and language learning is one of it. I saw it happen with my mother. I realized how powerful English language is in terms of expressing our thoughts, feelings and ideas. It has become a very powerful tool for each and every successful Overseas Filipino Worker. It is not merely being able to speak the language but more so of how we comprehend and understand the complexity of applying our knowledge in doing our jobs stated in English. And how did all of these happen? It ...
